Windows Are In!

Yesterday after work, Scott texted me and informed me that the windows were installed today.  I called him to  meet up with him at the house so I can have a look too.  He said the windows really made the house look like a home.  He added, "Our house is beautiful!"  I don't think I've heard him use that word to describe anything for a long time.  I totally agree with him!

Isn't this a gorgeous window?  I love the look of the grills on windows.  We had wanted to get them for the rest of the windows but after we found out how much they cost ($20/square), we decided to get them for just the front.

We now have a basement floor!  Scott had to continually monitor it and made sure that the Kerosene heater was constantly running to keep the basement warm in order to prevent cracks.

The floor and drain guy sealed all the openings in the basement with plastic sheets to keep the rain and snow out.  Oh, the joy of winter!

Roof is done!

It took the framers a while to complete the roof because of more weather delays.  Finally, we are ready for the shingles.

I think Carlo did a fantastic job with the middle window!

We met up with the roofer to choose the colour for the shingles.  It was really difficult to make a decision because the sample we got was so small and it was hard to imagine what it would look like on a house.

Imagine all these samples are on a sheet of  8.5 x 11

I've always liked the look of charcoal gray on the roof.  Scott didn't want the roof to be too dark.  So we compromised and decided on this colour called Driftwood:

It doesn't even look like the photo next to it.  Even after I had made the decision, I was still not convinced that I had made the right choice.  The roofer suggested that we go out to look at a house that he had just finished with the same colour that we chose so that we can finalize our decision.  I drove to that house after work the next day but it was so cloudy and far that I couldn't really tell if I really love it.  Anyway, not wanting to waste any more time, I said yes to Scott to finalize the decision and hoped for the best!

Rain in January?

We are not complaining about the above 0 Degree Celsius temperature because we could not have asked for better temperatures but, every time that it rains, the framers won't work.  They can work in the snow, but not in the rain.  The rain delayed our schedule a bit so we are not as far along as we had hoped.

Our roof design in the front is quite complicated so it's taking Carlo (framer) a little longer to do.  I don't mind though because he is doing a great job so far.

Next door neighbour is way ahead of us.  They're onto stucco already.
